Early Name: "Project Sandbag"
The animation itself was inspired most prominently by "the sandbag test" which is a test used by animators to test their animation skills by giving a ton of life and personality to an inanimate object, usually a sandbag. A really good example of this would be in Disney's Aladdin, where the magic carpet is given an entire personality and is made a real character, despite just being a carpet in the end. I really wanted to work on giving my animation's more style and life to them, so I figured a good place to start was with my own variation of the sandbag test. Of course, as I developed the idea a bit more I realized I wanted to do a lot more with it and make it into a real short film. Here's some examples of the sandbag test if you're not familiar:
